Types and purpose of agricultural machinery

Agricultural machinery is a large group of self-propelled, mounted, and trailed mechanisms, devices, and units. Their purpose is soil cultivation, crop care, and harvesting. Some types of agricultural machinery are universal and are widely used in industry, construction, and municipal services. Primarily, these are mini-tractors, crawler, and wheeled machines.
Agricultural machinery plays a crucial role in modern agriculture. The existence of the agricultural sector is unthinkable without it. Thanks to rapid development and innovations, farmers have the opportunity to choose suitable machinery from a wide range of equipment, to buy a mini-tractor, tractor, or any other mechanism at an affordable price. A large share of agricultural machinery on the Ukrainian market consists of tractors and various devices of Chinese manufacture. They provide worthy competition to leading world manufacturers. For example, Spike mini-tractors are practically in no way inferior to brand-name analogues in their characteristics. And in terms of price, repair cost, and maintenance, it is much more profitable to buy such machinery.
Types of Agricultural Machinery
The choice of agricultural machinery is based on its type, purpose, and technical characteristics. Today, a wide selection of machines and mechanisms for growing various crops and automating processes is available. Agricultural machinery includes machines, devices, and mechanisms that perform various tasks in agriculture.
All machinery can be divided into three groups:
- Combines, tractors, mini-tractors, self-propelled machines;
- Plows, harrows, cultivators, seeders, sprayers, other mounted and trailed mechanisms;
- Spare parts, consumables, and components – needed during operation;
Regarding the purpose of modern agricultural machinery, a separate classification exists.
Purpose of Agricultural Machinery:
- For pre-sowing cultivation. Wheeled or crawler tractors and mini-tractors are used. The main tasks they perform are plowing and cultivation;
- For sowing. Sowing is performed by tractors with special trailed equipment.
- Crop treatment. A very important stage that affects yield. For hilling, irrigation, fertilization, weed and pest control, special mechanisms are used, which are operated by tractors;
- Harvesting. The harvest is collected by combines or tractors with trailed devices designed for harvesting specific crops;
- Post-harvest work. Performed by tractors with special mechanisms.
Large farming enterprises use various machinery for growing specific crops. Smaller farmers prefer universal wheeled tractors or mini-tractors with a minimal set of agricultural machinery. In both cases, it is possible to obtain good yields regardless of conditions.
Types of Agricultural Machinery
Agricultural machinery includes self-propelled machines, units, and equipment for performing agricultural work.
The following types are distinguished:
- Tractors and mini-tractors. A universal self-propelled machine for working with mounted and trailed equipment. Wheeled and crawler tractors are most commonly used.
- Soil cultivation mechanisms. Plows (for plowing the land), cultivators (for loosening and destroying weeds), harrows (for leveling the soil, destroying weeds, and removing the crust that impedes moisture exchange).
- Sowing equipment. Seeders, hoppers, containers. The main purpose is the distribution of seed material in the soil.
- Mechanisms for crop care. Irrigation systems, thinners, fertilizer spreaders, treaters, etc.;
- Harvesting machinery. Combines, mowers, diggers, mounted and trailed devices for harvesting various crops.
This is only a small part of the agricultural machinery necessary for obtaining good yields. Today, it is hard to imagine a farm without combines, tractors, and other machines for field work. High-tech mechanisms help fight for the harvest, save time, allow mechanization of most processes, and increase labor productivity. But to achieve this, one needs to know how to choose the necessary agricultural machinery correctly.
How to Choose Agricultural Machinery
Properly selected equipment increases productivity and efficiency. Therefore, choosing agricultural machinery for a farm or individual household requires expertise. For this, there are selection criteria:
- Purpose. What tasks need to be performed;
- Size of the farm. Larger farming enterprises require more powerful machinery, while smaller ones may only need a mini-tractor;
- Budget. The cost of a new tractor is quite high, but it is always possible to find good offers. For example, one can get a good discount on a Spike tractor and also choose the appropriate configuration.
- Availability of service and prices for spare parts. This issue may become quite critical over time. Therefore, affordable prices for spare parts and maintenance are also important.
- Technical characteristics. The more powerful the machinery and the wider its functionality, the more expensive it is. It is quite likely that simpler machinery will suffice for work on a farm.
Choosing agricultural machinery is a complex procedure that requires a thorough analysis of the farm's needs and careful market research. Assistance from specialists who can help make the right choice, save money, and buy agricultural machinery on the most favorable terms will not be superfluous.
